... to love and be loved marks true happiness ...

'Natasha, to love is to suffer. To avoid suffering, one must not love. But, then one suffers from not loving. Therefore, to love is to suffer, not to love is to suffer, to suffer is to suffer. To be happy is to love, to be happy, then, is to suffer, but suffering makes one unhappy, therefore, to be unhappy one must love, or love to suffer, or suffer from too much happiness, I hope you're getting this down.'
-- Woody Allen

Happy Anniversary!

It's been one month since our wedding-- whew that flew by quick. We've already lasted way more than some other California marriages, hooray!

This month has been a crazy rollercoaster of goodness and growing together-- from the overwhelmingly breathtaking waters of Tahiti, Moorea, and Bora Bora to the underwhelmingly beige walls of numerous doctors' offices-- we're already test driving the whole "in sickness and in health" vow. But it's all been taken in good spirit, we're taking each day as it comes and definitely trying to enjoy every moment, even if that moment is a bit yuck.

So here are some things I realized are hard to do when your back hurts:
  • Walking. I have this fabulous gangster limp going on. It's quite cool and will be slightly missed after surgery.
  • Sleeping. Though currently Tylenol PM works wonders.
  • Playing fetch with the dogs. (Like they really play fetch anyway.)
  • Driving. Disappointingly, cruise control only does so much.
  • Base jumping. I've never wanted to, but still, now I don't even have the option.
And here are some things I realized are great to do when your back hurts:
  • Getting a back rub. Mmm, I con Mick into this every night.
  • Eating mangoes in the jacuzzi. (They were on sale at Safeway.)
  • Sleeping. Tylenol PM is my new BFF.
  • Spending quality time with your husband during the hours in the doctors' offices. We get to ask each other about lots of very important life-defining questions-- questions like how much ice cream is considered too much ice cream (answer: a classic trick question, everyone knows you can never have too much ice cream), or what drove M. Night Shamalamalamanaman to sabotage his movie by actually showing the aliens in Signs, or what is the more status-symbolic purse-- a Hermes or a Jimmy Choo? (okay, so maybe that last question was one I posed for myself, but hey, I was getting an MRI and those thoughts bring me to my happy place)
So needless to say, I'm really looking forward to all the changes, both fun and a little "nerve-wrecking" (hahaha, inside joke, no?), in the next month of marriage. And the next. And the next. I should be all better by then, and just think of all the new wonderful questions those times will bring!

Happy Anniversary!
